That depends on who made your shingles and which warranty you hold. Claims online run both ways, and the ones we found don’t come with a document from the shingle maker.
So start with your own warranty. If it’s in a kitchen drawer, go dig it out, or send Chris a photo of it and he’ll read it with you.
What you’ll read online
Here’s how those claims look. One roof treatment company says the biggest shingle maker has stated that treatments leave its warranty alone. A roofer’s blog says makers like GAF have stated that a treatment can void your warranty.
Neither one links to anything from the shingle maker itself. So we don’t repeat either claim as fact. No single answer fits every roof, so be wary of a flat yes or a flat no from anybody, us included.
How to check your own
- Find the warranty. Try your closing papers or the invoice from whoever put the roof on.
- Note the brand on it. GAF, Owens Corning and CertainTeed each write their own terms.
- Read the part that lists what ends your coverage. Look for words like “treatment”, “coating” or “applied to the shingles”.
- Send it over. Text a photo to (281) 466-7436 or email it to cd@brightgreenroof.com. Chris goes through it with you before anything gets sprayed.

The warranty that comes with a treatment
Bright Green Roof has its own written warranty. It runs five years, and it can pass to the next owner if you sell. The Bright Green Roof FAQ says it’s meant to make sure the shingle will continue to be pliable and flexible. Our warranty page walks through it. It sits next to your shingle warranty. It doesn’t take its place. Before you pay, get those terms from Chris in writing.
A warranty only matters if the roof is worth treating in the first place. Check yours against the candidate checklist, then book the free roof assessment. Chris can look at the roof and the paperwork on the same visit.
